Kutztown University Men's Rugby Knocked Out of Collegiate Rugby Championships by UCLA

Chester, Pa. – Kutztown University men’s rugby lost a tight match 14-12 to UCLA in the semifinal round of the 2016 Penn Mutual Collegiate Rugby Championships at Talen Energy Stadium, Chester, Pa.    

The Golden Bears would strike first with a Robert Stortz try and a John Sage try to make it 7-0 KU.  Strong defense on both sides of the ball kept any further points from the board in the first half. 

UCLA opened the second half with a try by Devin Lim and a Cian Barry conversion to tie the game at 7.  With just over two minutes to play Kutztown’s Murphy Lill scored five points for the Golden Bears.  John Sage missed a difficult conversion into a strong wind.
With a minute left to play UCLA’s Niall Barry found the try zone and a second conversion by Cian Barry gave the Bruins the win.  UCLA was able to hold off a strong comeback effort by the Golden Bears in the final seconds.
In the other semifinal, the University of California defeated the University of Arizona 38-5 to advance to the championship round against UCLA.
