2017 Bermuda Rugby 7s

Ariel Re Bermuda 7s College Division

Kutztown University took the Cup after dominating the entire field over the two-day spring break weekend tournament, leaving last year’s champions, the Bermuda National Team, Ariel Re All-Stars, in its wake with a 33-5 defeat. KU’s first side defeated Albany (41-0), West Chester (33-7) and St. Joes (38-5) in pool play before taking on the Black Foxes (28-7) in the quarters, and meeting the KU second side (29-10) in the semifinals.

KU2 fell 31-10 to St. Joseph’s University in the third place match to take fourth on the tournament after a solid performance all weekend. In pool play, KU2 blanked Norwich University (27-0), downed UPenn (35-5), and lost its final match in pool play to the Ariel Re All-Stars (10-5). In the quarters, KU2 rallied to defeat Stony Brook (19-17) to secure its spot in the semis against teammates from KU1.

Ultimately, the Golden Bears had a great showing in its first test for the spring 7s season. More action to come this weekend, as the team travels to Frederick, MD on March 25th for the opening weekend at Mt. St. Mary’s. Don’t miss KU’s home tournament on April 22nd, and the return to the CRC in June.
